1 Chronicles 18

1Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines. WEBAfter this, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines.

2And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought gifts. WEBHe defeated Moab; and the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.

3And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates. WEBDavid defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah, toward Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

4And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them an hundred chariots. WEBDavid took from him one thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved of them enough for one hundred chariots.

5And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men. WEBWhen the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck twenty-two thousand men of the Syrians.

6Then David put garrisons in Syria-damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went. WEBThen David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went.

7And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. WEBDavid took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

8Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass. WEBFrom Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took very much bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze sea, the pillars, and the vessels of bronze.

9Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah; WEBWhen Tou king of Hamath heard that David had struck all the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,

10He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to enquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass. WEBhe sent Hadoram his son to King David to greet him and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him (for Hadadezer had wars with Tou); and he had with him all kinds of vessels of gold and silver and bronze.

11Them also king David dedicated unto the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek. WEBKing David also dedicated these to Yahweh, with the silver and the gold that he carried away from all the nations: from Edom, from Moab, from the children of Ammon, from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

12Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand. WEBMoreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah struck eighteen thousand of the Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

13And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David’s servants. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went. WEBHe put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became servants to David. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went.

14So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people. WEBDavid reigned over all Israel; and he executed justice and righteousness for all his people.

15And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder. WEBJoab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;

16And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe; WEBZadok the son of Ahitub and Abimelech the son of Abiathar were priests; Shavsha was scribe;

17And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king. WEBand Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief officials serving the king.
